FAQ

  • HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

    The number of treatments required are based on a number of factors;
    - Size and age of the tattoo
    - Placement
    - Colours in the tattoo
    - Your health
    - Your skin tone

On average a person may require 6-10 treatments for the removal of a professional tattoo whilst amateur tattoos can take between 1-3 sessions of laser.

A person who lives a healthy lifestyle (exercise, drinks lots of water) will eliminate ink particles (foreign bodies) faster whereas someone who doesn’t (smokes, drinks a lot) will circulate more toxins in the system and slow down the process.

Each individual will respond differently to treatments with a recommendation of minimum 10 - 12 weeks.

Results can be 100% removal or just fading of the tattoo (enough for cover-ups).

  • CAN I FADE MY TATTOO FOR A COVER-UP?

Definitely! Laser tattoo removal is a method used to fade or remove unwanted tattoos by using laser technology. The process involves directing laser light pulses onto the tattooed area, which breaks down the tattoo ink into smaller particles. These particles are then gradually eliminated by the body's natural processes.

When it comes to getting a tattoo cover-up, laser tattoo removal can be a helpful tool. By fading the existing tattoo, it provides the opportunity for a new tattoo to be placed on top of it more effectively. The laser treatment helps to lighten the colors and reduce the intensity of the original tattoo, making it easier for a tattoo artist to create a new design that can effectively conceal the old tattoo.

  • HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Treatment prices for each individual will depend on the size of the tattoo, the placement, colours used and the number of treatments required.

We offer all clients complimentary, no-obligation consultations. This is to ensure that you are equipped with the right knowledge and understanding of the whole process.

At Backspace Laser, we want to assist more people who are looking to begin or continue their laser tattoo removal journey, with prices starting at $100.

  • IS TATTOO LASER REMOVAL PAINFUL?

There can be some slight discomfort during the treatment depending on the location of the tattoo, and on your pain threshold. Some clients have likened the sensation to having hot oil splattering on their skin or continuous flickering of rubber bands.

We’ve been through the removal journey ourselves so we know what it feels like, luckily the treatment itself is super quick and depending on the size of the tattoo, your treatment can last between 1-10 minutes.

For the treatment to be as comfortable and pain-free as possible, we use the Zimmer Cryo 6 Cooling System which expels a continuous cold flow of air straight onto the treatment area (used before, during and after the process to maintain skin comfort.) This numbs and soothes the skin as well as minimising the risk of thermal injury.

After the treatment, you might experience some redness, swelling, or a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area. It's totally normal, and these side effects usually subside after a few days.

All in all, laser tattoo removal isn't a walk in the park, but it's definitely tolerable. The pain is temporary, but the results can last a lifetime!

  • WHAT IS FROSTING?

‘Frosting’ is a temporary white residue that appears on the skin during a laser tattoo removal treatment that will generally last for 5-15 minutes post treatment.

This occurrence is due to a chemical reaction from the heat of the laser hitting ink pigments in the skin. As the tattoo ink pigments are being heated, a gas is released to the outer layers of the skin which turn into bubbles of carbon dioxide that appear over the treated ink.

We understand this can look alarming, but don’t worry! This process is completely normal and a great sign that your body’s natural healing process is reacting and working. This is also a good indicator that the laser energy is successfully being absorbed by the ink. Frosting is most visible after your first treatment. Subsequent treatments will have less frosting as there is less ink under your skin.

  • WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

We use a gold-standard medical laser machine by Cynosure, the Revlite SI accompanied by the Zimmer Cryo 6 Cooling System to manage any discomfort during your treatment.

  • WHAT ARE THE REASONS FOR REMOVING TATTOOS?

There are plenty of reasons why people choose to zap their tattoos away with lasers! Here are a few common ones:

Change in Taste: Hey, we all make questionable decisions from time to time, right? Sometimes, people get tattoos that they end up not liking anymore. Maybe it was a spur-of-the-moment decision or their tastes have simply changed. Laser tattoo removal gives you a chance to move on from a design that no longer resonates.

Job Concerns: Tattoos can be seen as a form of self-expression, but unfortunately, some workplaces have strict policies regarding visible tattoos. If someone's dream job requires a more conservative appearance, or they want to improve their career prospects, laser removal can help them achieve that clean-cut, ink-free look that employers prefer.

Relationship Changes: Ah, the tale as old as time—love gone wrong. When a romantic relationship ends, having a constant reminder of that person etched on your skin might not be so pleasant. Laser tattoo removal offers a way to remove the names, symbols, or portraits associated with an ex, allowing people to move on without the inked baggage.

Faded or Dated Tattoos: Over time, tattoos can fade, blur, or lose their vibrancy. Styles and trends change too, so what was cool back in the day might not be so hip anymore. Laser removal can help freshen up an old tattoo or provide a clean slate for a new design.

Cover-Up Options: Sometimes, people have tattoos that they want to cover up with a different design. Laser removal can fade the existing tattoo, making it easier for a tattoo artist to work with and create a new masterpiece that effectively conceals or transforms the old ink.

Remember, these are just a few reasons why people opt for laser tattoo removal. Ultimately, it's a personal choice, and everyone has their own unique motivations for seeking this treatment.

  • CAN YOU REMOVE COSMETIC BROW TATTOOS?

Absolutely! Also known as permanent makeup or semi-permanent makeup, this can be removed effectively using laser tattoo removal.

The procedure works similarly to the removal of traditional tattoos, with the laser targeting and breaking up the pigment particles in the cosmetic tattoo ink.

With the diverse range of pigments used in cosmetic brow tattoos, it's like mixing paints – you never know how they'll react until you try. So, before we dive into the full treatment, let's do a little patch test to ensure your brows are ready for their makeover journey! Safety first, glam second!
